Sustainable Cleaning Tools

Happy Thursday, y’all!

Today I’m sharing some small changes we’ve made for cleaning in our home to be more sustainable. We are striving to be more conscious of the products we use - sustainability, brand mission, etc - and have been so happy with the choices I’m sharing below! Our goal right now is to be replacing single-use items with things that can be used hundreds of times before needing another!

  1. Dish Towels

This household cloth has been absolutely amazing for drying dishes! It’s very absorbent and has a long life span! I try to use my drying towels 2-3 times before throwing them in the wash since they have only been used to dry off clean dishes. Very happy with this and it’s only $10.

2. Cleaning Cloth

One of the first things we ditched was paper towels. Calculating how many of these we were using and then throwing away was quite sickening. I used them to clean the countertops. the windows, the mirrors, for dusting, and as napkins. I couldn’t believe it had taken us this long to stop wasting so much in this single area. We switched over to using these cloth napkins from Target and the cleaning cloth linked above. I use this cleaning cloth for every single thing I mentioned I was using paper towels for (except windows, I prefer microfiber cloths for those!). I highly recommend grabbing a few of these!

3. Dish Cleaning Tools

I was the girl who purchased the huge packs of throw away sponges from Sam’s Club - guilty. I kept searching for tools that would WORK and that were sustainable but did not find any until I came across these! We use this bamboo bottle brush for cleaning our water bottles! It has been a lifesaver for getting in those small bottles! For washing any type of glassware, I use this glass brush! I can trust that it’s not going to scratch them but also that they will come out clean! For our pots, pans, plates, and bowls - I love using this everyday dish brush! Once again, it’s very soft on the materials but keeps them clean!

4. Sink/Tub Scrubber

I personally use this washing-up whisk for cleaning my kitchen sink! I use this with my Thieves scrub that I make (how-to on my Insta story highlights) and it works magic! Cleaning your sink - at least once per week - is so important to get out all of the dirty bacteria that lingers.

5. Beeswax Food Wrap

Okay, this was probably one of the more odd things to me. Reusable food wrap? What?! But y’all. It is a game changer. Forget using the ziplock bags or plastic wrap… beeswax is where it’s at! You can easily wash these with COLD water and biodegradable dish soap (I love Thieves) to get about a year’s use out of these! So wonderful!

6. Soap Instead of Body Wash

I am a lover of some good body wash BUT the constant use of plastic was bothering me. So I am doing my best to switch to bars of soap instead. I personally love using Lavender soap from Young Living! It smells so yummy! We use this cedar soap tray to make our soaps last longer. It allows them to breathe because when the soap drys between uses, it absorbs less water, which makes the bar last longer! I place this out of the water stream in our shower but you can also use this at your sinks too! We still use our normal bottles for soap at the sink but reuse them with refillable soap to reduce the plastic use there!

I hope y’all have enjoyed a peek into some of the things we are switching up in our home! There’s lots of changes happening over here and I cannot wait to share them all with you! Have a great week!
